Summary (Goodreads

From the internationally bestselling author of The Simple Wild comes the story of a woman at a crossroads in her life, struggling between the safe route and the one that will only lead to more heartbreak.

Veterinarian Marie Lehr knows unrequited love all too well after pining for her best friend, only to watch him marry another woman. It’s a mistake she will never make again, especially not when she can practically hear the clock ticking on her childbearing years.

The trouble is, she can’t seem to find anyone who appeals to her even a fraction as much as that burly bush pilot did. Competitive musher Tyler Brady certainly doesn’t, especially not after the heated altercation with the handsome but arrogant, spiteful man.

Or so she thinks.

While volunteering at the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, Marie discovers that first impressions may have been false, and her attraction to Tyler is very real. But his heart belongs to someone else, leaving him with nothing to offer but friendship. Marie’s been down this road before and knows how that ends. Yet, no matter how hard she works to keep from falling for Tyler, it seems she’s doomed to follow her own trail once again.

Review:

If you loved The Simple Wild, you will definitely fall in love with Marie's story as well! I absolutely loved reading this book. Couldn't put it down after the first page. K.A. Tucker has done it again at making me fall in love with her characters and the Alaskan wilderness scenery. Plus we got to see more of Calla and Jonah updates since we last saw them in the novella. You can definitely bet I will be buying the paperback when it comes out because it was amazing!

I felt so many butterflies when I heard that Marie would be getting her own story after her own heartbreak of not being with Jonah, but I will say Tyler definitely made up for it. How can you not fall in love with this man. Firstly, he is handsome and arrogant, truly is there for his friends, truck scene, and he loves dogs and is a competitive dog musher. The tension between these two was through the roof during some scenes that you had to continue reading their story! Don't worry Jonah I still love you! But he is high up on that list for me now!

Getting to know Marie was definitely the best part because you see Cory who works with Marie at the office who is hilarious and to finally see the story Marie deserves to be happy. Marie's family dynamic sounds almost exactly like my own family. I learnt so much from this book about dog racing and seeing how she felt as the third wheel with Calla and Jonah. After that amazing ending I was already wishing for another book!! If you loved Calla's story you will fall in love with this one as well!
