When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

Review:

In this Amazing debut by Jennifer Rush, Altered was fast paced, romantic, thrilling and you will not be able to put this book down. I loved all the boys in this book, and it made me want my own Sam, Nick, Cas, and Trev!! This is an amazing book which will make your heart go crazy because of how Jennifer, constructed her characters as well as the plot. Altered is definitely a must read for 2013! It was also one book I love because throughout the entire book, it made me think of why this group wants to test these groups of boys for experiments. From the cover to the book itself it was amazing!

Altered is taken from Anna point of view whose father works for the Branch who is taking care of the boys whom are the projects. Sam, Cas, Nick, and Trev, who are both attractive and smart. Each one is different than the other, but they also want to escape the Branch. Anna discovers them at a young age and befriends them, especially Sam. Soon after the boys and Anna escape from a surprise visit of the Branch initiatives.

Anna along the ways learns new things about the boys and even herself and how she fits into their world. I loved the twists and turns that will leave you hanging and wanting more information because you manage to piece together the mystery of the Branch as well as Anna and Sam. There of course has to be a romance and this romance is starting to grow and fall in love. Sam is a very complex character and there is so much about him and his motives and the mysteries of his tattoos. I expect more romance in the next book between these two. I did like Anna's character as she was adjusting her self and the boys. It gave her a role and a reason to be with all of them because they had a family vibe between herself and Cas, who is a total sweetie. Nick was also another complex one because he is more of the cold hearted one who wants to get revenge on everyone and wants to remember all their pasts.

The twists closer near the ending were OMG moments that you never see coming! I like a book that surprises me with a plot twist. Altered is action-packed, romance, and the main characters on the run from the Branch. The secrets and mysteries will hopefully be revealed in the next books because I need more!! Overall it is definitely one of my favorites of 2013 and I will definitely be looking forward to the next books in the series!

5/5
