Kelley York: Interview
Hello!!!
Here is my interview with Kelley York!! This post is a little late due to me being a little busy this past month, but Kelley is one awesome writer. Big thanks to Entangled Publishing:D
1) What was your favorite scene to write about in Hushed?
I have a lot of favorites. Archer and Evan’s ‘just bones’ scene always comes to mind, along with any of Archer’s confrontations with his mom. A lot of readers seem to enjoy the more tender moments with him and Evan, but I always like the emotional, heartbreaking scenes best when writing.
2) How did you come up with the idea of plot/story?
I had several other WIPs at the time, but I dropped all of them when I got the idea for Archer. He was so fascinating to me, and I dove into his story immediately. It started with him and branched out from there.
3) How long did it take you to finish Hushed?
I don’t remember the exact time, but I’ll guess around 5 months from start to finish. There was a small gap in there of a few weeks wherein I got stuck and didn’t do much writing at all.

4) Favorite thing to do on your spare time?
Video games. And animals. I have a lot of pets to keep me entertained. I’m also in love with shows like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story.

5) Which character was the hardest to write about?
Possibly Evan. His patience was so unwavering that at times I had a difficult time maintaining his frame of mind about everything. Archer was the easy one. That probably says something about me that I have an easier time writing screwed up characters rather than well-adjusted ones...

Eighteen-year-old Archer couldn't protect his best friend, Vivian, from what happened when they were kids, so he's never stopped trying to protect her from everything else. It doesn't matter that Vivian only uses him when hopping from one toxic relationship to another - Archer is always there, waiting to be noticed. Then along comes Evan, the only person who's ever cared about Archer without a single string attached. The harder he falls for Evan, the more Archer sees Vivian for the manipulative hot-mess she really is. But Viv has her hooks in deep, and when she finds out about the murders Archer's committed and his relationship with Evan, she threatens to turn him in if she doesn't get what she wants...And what she wants is Evan's death, and for Archer to forfeit his last chance at redemption.
