Blog Tour: Suddenly Royal by Nichole Chase (Playlist)

Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.

Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.

While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders

I paint. I draw. I craft. I write. What does all of that have in common? Music. It’s true. When I’m doing any of those things or just beeboping along in my car, I listen to music. It inspires me, moves me, and lifts me up. I believe that Plato said it best:

Music is a moral law.
It gives soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination,
a charm to the gaiety, and
fire to everything.
It is the essence of order and leads
to all that is just and beautiful.
---Plato

I listen to music all the time and much to the dismay of my family, I often listen to songs on repeat. Occasionally a song will inspire a scene or a fit a character. Sometimes music will be the very seed that is the beginning of a book. I love music!

There were a few songs that really went with Suddenly Royal. For me, listening to them will always bring images of Sam and Alex. In fact, years down the road they will probably still make me think of these characters. When writing, I often feel like I’m directing the music video for the song—my interpretation of what/how/why in the song, and then write it all down.

Imagine Dragons- It’s Time (Probably the theme song for the whole book!)

There is a scene in Suddenly Royal where Sam is on a plane and puts her headphones in and stares out the window. If I were picking the music for a movie, this is what she would be listening to. (In my head, the scenes unfold like a movie after all!) The lyrics that say it all:
“It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger, but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
 Now don't you understand
That I'm never changing who I am”

Phillip Phillips- Home

Samantha leaves everything behind and finds this new life overwhelming. I feel this song explains how Alex feels as Sam tries to find her footing. He wants to shelter her and help her make this new place her home.
“Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave (wave) is stringing us along
 Just know you're not alone
Cause I'm gonna make this place your home”

Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko- Stay
This one has a bit of the feel for how Sam fights her attraction to Alex. Those quiet moments where she is trying to understand what her heart already knows.

Ed Sheeran- Kiss Me
The next morning. *swoon* Also, I may have a teensy crush on Ed. That voice… Oh, boy!

These are some of the songs that inspired me the most. If you’ve read Suddenly Royal, I’d love to hear of songs that remind you of the characters or story. It always amazes me to see how other people interpret music and books.

Thank you for letting me share part of my playlist for Suddenly Royal today. I had fun revisiting the scenes I wrote while compiling the list.

Author Bio:
Nichole Chase is a daydreamer. No, really, just ask any of the math teachers that had the misfortune of seeing her name appear on their class schedule.
For years she has had story lines and characters begging for attention, but she resolutely pushed them aside to focus on more normal (read, boring) jobs.
Well, no longer! She is currently heeding the voices in her head and frantically writing their stories. Ms. Chase is the author of the Dark Betrayal Trilogy, Flukes, and Suddenly Royal (including several short stories).
Nichole resides in South Georgia with her husband, energetic daughter, dog, tortoise, and two cats. When not devouring novels by the dozens, you may find her writing, painting, crafting, or chasing her daughter around the house while making monster noises.
