Starcrossed

The next book I will be buying! It comes out May 31, 2011

Helen Hamilton has always tried to hide how different she is—no easy feat on an island as small as Nantucket, and only getting harder as she finds herself haunted by hallucinations and vivid nightmares.
It's not until she crosses paths with Lucas Delos at school that Helen's true heritage is finally revealed. Yet even as Lucas helps her awaken to her startling powers, they can never be together—not unless they can break free from the tragic destiny the Three Fates have in store.

Daimon by Jennifer L. Armentrout

In this captivating prequel to Half-Blood, Armentrout does a beautiful job of describing Alexandria's view of the world as a half-blood. From beginning to end her beginning story gets us ready for the first novel, Half-Blood which comes out September 15.  All I can say is "OMG!"  I loved it!

The story introduces readers to the main character Alexandria “Alex” Andros, a half-blood descendent of the gods, who, with her mother, a pure-blood, has been on the run for three years, hiding from the Covenant and from the daimons who exist on the aether of pure-bloods.

The story gives us the insight through Alex's life as she goes through life after the Covenant. She has been running with her mother. We get though some descriptions that Alex has a crush on someone with his eyes! The Daimons, where very well put together and I love the novella because it gets us ready for the first novel.  I even cried at some parts during the read:) and that's not an easy thing for me to cry during a book! So it means I love it, but during that part it, it made me want to read more!

The novella also gave us a sneak peak of Chapter one in book 1- Half-Blood and the action didn’t stop. By the time I was as the end I wanted more.! It’s here in this first chapter that we catch a glimpse of Aiden and I already know he’ll be soon added to my literary ideal man list. He’s very appealing and knows just how to make an entrance (look below)!

I can already tell The Covenant series is going to be awesome and I can’t wait for book 1- Half-Blood to come out September 15, 2011. This is one series you’re going to want to read to the end! It will grab your attention from start to finish, so I recommend you pre-order this book, because you will love it!

"In front of me, he walked right through the flames, looking every bit
like a daimon hunter should. The fire did not singe his pants nor dirty
his shirt. Not a single dark hair was touched by the blaze. Those cool,
storm-cloud-colored eyes fixed on me.
It was him—Aiden St. Delphi." (Armentout)

Anna Dressed In Blood

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story. . .

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

*P.S it takes place in Thunder Bay!

Interview with Author- Jennifer L. Armentrout

e-book  goodreads
This is my interview with the lovely Jennifer L. Armentrout, who I think is one of the coolest authors. I recommend you pre-order her book

Daimon: A Prequel to Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: May 10, 2011
Genre: YA Paranormal

The Story: (from Goodreads) "Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee!' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life."

For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards… and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her.

(Covenant #1)

Half- Blood

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure-bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Paperback, 308 pages
Expected publication: September 15th 2011 by Spencer Hill Press

Here's my wonderful interview:

Questions:

Why did you decide to become an author?
I've always wanted to be an author, but I can pinpoint an exact moment when I decided I would become one. I'd say it probably occurred after I realized I wasn't going to be a criminal psychologist, a trapeze artists or a veterinarian.

 What inspires you to write?
Honestly?Boredom. Okay. It's more than just boredom, but the ability to actually escape the every day life and immerse yourself in the character's world. There is nothing better than that.

Are you a full time writer or do you write in your spare time?
I write every second of the day that I can.

Favourite book that you read?
I have several. Ahem, The Forbidden Game by LJ Smith, Playing Hurt by Holly Schindler, The Demon's Trapper's Daughter by Jana Oliver and a lot more.

What helps you write?
I guess I can't answer with boredom again, but seriously, when I'm bored--which is a lot-- I write. Music helps, too.

If you were stuck on an island, name two things you could bring with you?
My laptop and a genie. The genie so he can grant me wishes and I can bring more stuff with me.

What are you looking forward to the most in the year?
Pfft. Nothing cool is happening this year. Oh yeah, wait. Half-Blood comes out in September. I *may* be looking forward to that.

Describe the weirdest/spontaneous thing you did?
Once I bungee jumped. I don't know if that is weird. Probably just stupid. Why jump off a perfectly stable ledge with a freaking rope tied to you?

What inspired you to write Half-Blood?
I've always been a big fan of Greek Mythology, especially the demigod aspect of it all. I've always wanted to write a story using Greek Mythology.

What is your favourite quote from Half-Blood or Daimon?
From Daimon: "Who did I have to kill to get some Count Chocula up in this house?"
From Half-Blood: It's a toss up between "I glanced down at the dumbbell and pictured it flying across the room—at his face. But it was such a nice face, and I’d hate to ruin it." and "I’d be super-pissed in the afterlife if I died a virgin in this craphole."

Favourite character to write about in your novel?
Wow, that's hard to say. Each of the characters are my favorites in their own way. Alex, because she is so darn snarky and fun to write. Aiden, because he is very complicated to write. He's kind of a loof and introverted, but when he does share what he's thinking or feeling, it's pretty epic. And of course, Seth, because he pretty much gets to say what everything is thinking and wishing they could say.

What is your favourite thing to write about?
Love and romance. It's a big theme in any book I write. Of course, there is action and adventure, but I just love to write about, well, love.

Thanks for having me! Loved your questions!

I can't wait to read this book and hear much more about this series in the near future! Please purchase the novel when it hits stores in September!

My Review

I have read many stories/novels by the author, and I think I like this one the most because throughout the story we have the different views at which the main characters are trying to confess their love to each other, and they have soo much history with each other by which their parents have history. Echols writing gives us insight into these teenagers’ lives and experiences through college.  In "Love Story" we see the ups and downs of writing literature from Erin and Hunters class of literature in New York.  When reading their stories they explain why they hated each other for the past 6 years since her mother died and why they like each other at the same time, and reflect true stories of their lives in the story.

I thought that through these reading in the novel the author wants us to know the background of which the characters emotions are playing out through these love stories. Read the stories carefully to understand what Erin and Hunter write about each other through their writing and with emotion that reflects into reality.  We also learn that Erin grandmother gave Hunter her inheritance because she wants to become a writer instead of running the family business. I learned a lot about horse racing because Erin’s grandmother owns a ranch and they look after the horses and prepare them to race. In incorporating two different settings was genius because we see the characters in their natural environment in Kentucky.  On page 200 you can sense that Erin isn’t looking forward to seeing her grandmother because she gave Hunter her inheritance. She didn’t even want to stay in the house; she worked with Hunter’s father, Tommy.  Near the ending I was falling in love with Hunters character as he even recites Erin’s first story (really about how she likes Hunter but in story form) It was really cute. It also tells us through each of their written stories in some chapters that reflect what would happen when they got back to the farm.

I really loved this book and I will definitely buy the book and add it to my collection of Jennifer Echol books. I would say that Page 209 and onward are my favourite scene in the entire book because when both, Erin and Hunter talk about their feelings, it makes me want to find somebody who is smart like Hunter. A lot takes place during the last chapters and soo much drama at clubs and sorts. There is some sexual content, not lots, very short.  But it was needed because of the relationship that was building/tension from the previous nights.  I was very sad that it ended but I wanted to know more of the story after Thanksgiving, and I overall enjoyed reading it. The characters were amazing and had so much dynamic.

The ending paragraphs were brilliantly written and that somehow Erin and Hunter can repair their relationship in the end with her portfolio titled “Love Story”. Great Ending and Story told brilliantly from a great author Jennifer Echols, look forward to the next novel.  Be sure to read her other novels which are also amazing!

If you are interested in reading other books by this author you can look at Jennifer Echols other writings at her site, you can visit Love Story too on the page.

Summary from Authors site

Erin Blackwell is headed to college in New York City to study creative writing and earn a living as a romance novelist. Her grandmother has other plans: she approves of the college, but she wants Erin to major in business and then come back home to Kentucky to run the family’s famous racehorse farm. There is no way Erin will agree. Studying in New York and writing her way into a career is her escape from the farm and the family tragedy that happened there. So Erin’s grandmother decides Erin really will live life as a starving artist. She takes Erin’s future job running the farm, her inheritance, even her college tuition, and gives them all to Hunter Allen.

Hunter has lived on the farm for years. He’s Erin’s age, he’s the stable boy, and he’s the romantic dream of every girl in her high school. But he was involved in the family tragedy. Erin has always given him a wide berth. And he’s a slick opportunist. She’s furious that he fooled her grandmother into giving him Erin’s birthright and sending him to Erin’s college.

At least she’s free of him in her creative writing class. So she pens a story that has haunted her lately, in which the horse farm heiress at the very first Kentucky Derby starts a forbidden affair with the lowly stable boy. Unfortunately for her, the day she’s sharing this story with her New York classmates, Hunter walks in. He’s switching to her class. And after reading about himself in Erin’s story, he writes his own sexy assignments that lure Erin into dangerous fantasies about what could have been between them, and what might be.

Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt

Cover
You can Pre-Order here

Hey Everyone!!!
On S&S Gallery Grab, I read Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt. I was so excited to see that it was in there so I took the chance and read it pr I have read her other young adult books, The Night That Changed Everything, Two Way Street and Aces Up. All these books were really well written and are part of my favorite books. Sometimes It Happens was beautifully written and I loved the plot and the series of events that occurred throughout the novel. Barnholdt really does a good job with her story lines by starting off the beginning with the first day of school during Hannah’s first day of senior year and with each chapter we go from future to the past by the next chapter we find out that Hannah has been cheated on her boyfriend Sebastian with a end of the year party, where Hannah sees him kissing another girl while playing volleyball. So her best friend Ava and her boyfriend Noah help her through this part of the breakup between Hannah and Sebastian. I really did not like Sebastian because he treated Hannah and their relationship for granted because she is worth more than that. You feel her sorrow through this second chapter. Back to the first chapter, and Hannah is starting senior year and she talks about her summer and her job at Cooley’s you she thinks is a seller of drugs because of the way he looks. She got the job because of Noah, who is helping her with her. I loved each characters personality and the love that is shown through the scenes with Hannah’s ex and also with Noah in the mix makes it even better. I even felt sorry for some the characters because of why they go through But throughout the story you see that Noah and Hannah are alike in some of the scenes during the summer and Barnholdt does a really good job of intertwining the past and the future in her novel. I wont give too much away because I don’t want to ruin the story for all you but it is a must read on my list of books for those who love her novels and who also love romance novels. Personally I loved the book and I cannot wait until Lauren Barnholdt’s next novel to come in the near future. Plus the cover is really pretty!
You can look for this is stores on July 12:)

Unearthly By Cynthia Hand

Title:Unearthly (#1)
Author: Cynthia Hand
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 435

Summary (Goodreads)

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

Review:
I just finished Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. It was absolutely amazing, and I loved every minute of reading the novel. It captures both realities of living in the same world as angels. Hand wrote it beautifully as she describes her characters and the setting with delicate technique. The plot was really well written and really intertwined when Clara was telling her story of her purpose being a angel-blood. The concept of Angels was beautifully blended in and it is one of my new favorite books.

The whole story is around Clara who is an angel blood, her mother and brother are also angels. The beginning of the story tells us they live in California and are moving to Wyoming, for the purpose of Clara who is having re-occurring visions of a boy and a forest fire. We learn after they move that the boys name is Christian and she tries to make friends with him and this school. Clara is described as blond and beautiful, but to take away her beauty her mother dyes her hair reddish/orange. So everybody in the school make her as normal as possible. We then meet Tucker, who is also gorgeous in a cowboy way with his boy eyes and stare, who later finds out what Clara is. Overall the book goes through her first year at the school, and into the summer. Christian goes away to New York, her friend Wendy also Tucker's twin sister goes away for school things, and her friend Angela goes to Italy.

The end of the novel really picks up when we go to the purpose of why Clara is there to save Christian but then a twist is in place because of course there has to be some evil in the stories. We meet a Black Angel Wing and he wants Clara and her mother. When you read it you will understand what is going on. I won't explain everything but by the end it will leave you hanging. Overall I would recommend this book for any supernaturally lover and who is interest in angels will LOVE this book. I personally will read this again in the near future. I hear there will also be a sequel. I will tell everyone if there is! Cynthia Hand is a wonderful author and I cant wait until future books to come!

The Last Song by Nicolas Sparks

I would like to say that i enjoyed reading this book about first loves and pain that Nicholas Sparks brings to the novel, and how we learn more about each character. Some parts make you laugh while other parts make you really sad:((tear jerker) This is the first book I read of Nicholas Sparks and I hope to read more of his novels in the future. It made me thing about life and how long we have, about family and first loves and new friends. I recommend this book to anybody in need of a good break! Enjoy the read! The book was really well written, which gave the reader an insight into each of the characters POV's with Ronnie, Her Dad, and even Will's POV. She's So Dead To Us by Kieran Scott

When having money is all that matters, what happens when you lose it all?

Perfect, picturesque Orchard Hill. It was the last thing Ally Ryan saw in the rear-view mirror as her mother drove them out of town and away from the shame of the scandal her father caused when his hedge fund went south and practically bankrupted all their friends -- friends that liked having trust funds and new cars, and that didn't like constant reminders that they had been swindled. So it was adios, Orchard Hill. Thanks for nothing.

Now, two years later, Ally''s mother has landed a job back at the site of their downfall. So instead of Ally''s new low-key, happy life, it''ll be back into the snake pit with the likes of Shannen Moore and Hammond Ross.

But then there''s Jake Graydon. Handsome, wealthy, bored Jake Graydon. He moved to town after Ally left and knows nothing of her scandal, but does know that he likes her. And she likes him. So off into the sunset they can go, right? Too bad Jake''s friends have a problem with his new crush since it would make Ally happy. And if anyone deserves to be unhappy, it''s Ally Ryan.

Ally was hoping to have left all the drama in the past, but some things just can''t be forgotten. Isn''t there more to life than money?

We`ll Always Have Summer(3rd book in Summer Series) by Jenny Han:

Conrad has not gotten over the mistake he made when he let Belly go even as Jeremiah has always known that Belly is the girl for him. So when Belly and Jeremiah decide to make things forever, Conrad realizes that it''s now or never--tell Belly he loves her, or lose her for good.

Belly will have to confront her feelings for Jeremiah and Conrad and face a truth she has possibly always known: she will have to break one of their hearts.
