The spine-tingling horror of Stephen King meets an eerie mystery worthy of Sara Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series in Kate Karyus Quinn's haunting debut.

On a cool autumn night, Annaliese Rose Gordon stumbled out of the woods and into a high school party. She was screaming. Drenched in blood. Then she vanished.

A year later, Annaliese is found wandering down a road hundreds of miles away. She doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know how she got there. She only knows one thing: She is not the real Annaliese Rose Gordon.

Now Annaliese is haunted by strange visions and broken memories. Memories of a reckless, desperate wish . . . a bloody razor . . . and the faces of other girls who disappeared. Piece by piece, Annaliese's fractured memories come together to reveal a violent, endless cycle that she will never escape—unless she can unlock the twisted secrets of her past.

Review:

Wow!!! I don't know what to say after reading this book other than WHAT!! Kate Karyus Quinn writing was addicting, which leads me to also say that Anna/Annaliese character was very complicated and the entire plot was overwhelming at the same time it was a little confusing. The beginning was very scary at the same time I had to re-read some of it to understand what was happening. I was confused, going back and forth from one point of view to the next to another past.

This is the first time a book almost like Pretty Little Liars. This story really unfolds by pieces hence the title, and gives you a lot of information about Annaliese's life. It did remind me of some characteristics like Once Upon A Time (show) because of the how Annaliese came to be after learning about her story.  I was definitely sucked in by the story and by each of the characters.

This dark read will leave you wanting more, which leads to how it started with Annaliese walking along a road, then talking to the police. Things are then more confusing when we meet "dad" and "mom" and then the main character also turns to 3rd person which started to also confuse me. The past will come back a year later, the people who knew Anna before, for example Logan, Dex, and Gwen who also all have secrets about that unfortunate night that she went missing.

I was starting to understand what was happening, but I was wrong because the twist just got more confusing. The flashbacks were from either from Annaliese or this foreign character by the name of Anna. Through these memories we get a glimpse of how this started, and how she isn't just Annaliese Rose Gordon. In the many books I read this is the first one to stump me, and I felt bad to some of the things that were happening to the characters life. While figuring just what I was reading, I really liked how Annaliese was not the only person that was odd. Dex was a character of his own. The Physican was a very interesting character that will scare you, but there was very little information about him.

This book is definitely a book to pick up because from the beginning of the page to the end you will be sucked into the confusingness of what was happening. I overall enjoyed it. The ending kinda left me hanging of what will happen next! I cannot wait to see what Kate Karyus Quinn has more in story for her readers, now I am a fan!! This book will make you think and is a very good book with a paranormal twist!
