Summary (Goodreads)

Falling in love can feel like poetry. Or it can feel like a slam to the heart.

Colleen Hoover’s romantic, emotion-packed debut novel unforgettably captures all the magic and confusion of first love, as two young people forge an unlikely bond before discovering that fate has other plans for them.

Following the unexpected death of her father, eighteen-year-old Layken becomes the rock for both her mother and younger brother. She appears resilient and tenacious, but inside, she's losing hope. Then she meets her new neighbor Will, a handsome twenty-one-year-old whose mere presence leaves her flustered and whose passion for poetry slams thrills her.

Not long after a heart-stopping first date during which each recognizes something profound and familiar in the other, they are slammed to the core when a shocking discovery brings their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together and the forces that tear them apart. Only through the poetry they share are they able to speak the truth that is in their hearts and imagine a future where love is cause for celebration, not regret.

Review:

Adding another book to my favorites is Slammed by Colleen Hoover. I am surprised I haven't heard of this before I even read it. I was so interested in reading it I bought it right away since I loved the characters and the plot which captured my heart. This is my first Colleen Hoover book which is not going to be my last since I am hooked to her writing. From the moment you finish you have to pick up Point of Retreat (sequel), you will need it since I did finish Slammed in one day. It was beautiful, romantic, calm and full of inspiration after reading.

Within a few chapters were shocking and sad. The main character Layken (Lake) are just moving to Michigan after losing her father. Kel her little brother and mother then find friends in their neighbours across the street. The older brother Will, catches Lake's eye. These two characters were created beautifully and you got to know the person while reading it. Colleen Hoover did a great job of writing about the characters.

This book was fantastic and the fact that its a contemporary romance, I fell in love with it. The date scene was an adorable date because you got to see a different side of Will. The poetry made me cry and laugh. Slamming is very inspirational because that how many people can express how they feel. The moment Lake does find out that Will works and she was not able to continue their relationships, and it broke my heart! Julia, Lake's mom also is a major character because she as well goes through so many things. She is very cool and respects Will.

The romance was controlled and I thought it was beautiful how everything worked together to find the one person who inspires you to be yourself. Colleen Hoover is an amazing author who can create this book that everyone can love. I loved how the book ended and I am glad to have already read the other two in this series. In this New Adult it has made it one of my go-to reads. This is one book everyone must read!

  2. I must seriously be the only person who hasn't read a book by Colleen Hoover! I don't actually recognise this one, but I love the idea of the poetry, it sounds really different the other NA books out there. I think your review has finally convinced me to read one of Hoover's books! ;)
