Of Poseidon by Anna Banks

Title: Of Poseidon
Author: Anna Banks
Pages: 324
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Expected Release: May 22, 2012

Summary:

Emma and her friend Chloe are spending vacation in Florida. When Emma (literally) runs into a hot guy named Galen on the beach, little does she know he’s a prince of the Syrena. Galen and Emma both feel something strange – is it attraction? – and Galen suspects that Emma might well be the girl he’s heard of – a human who can communicate with fish.

What follows is a deadly scene with a shark in which Galen witnesses Emma’s gifts. He must know more about her, and follows her back to New Jersey, and high school, to find out for sure if she’s the key to saving his kingdom. Soon, Emma can’t deny her feelings for him, but can’t explain them, either – and both she and Galen must learn more about where she comes from and what her powers are before they can trust one another and their feelings.

Review:

This is definitely the BEST book that involves "mermaid/Syrena " books I have read to date!  At first it reminded me of The Little Mermaid with the storyline but in the overall structure of the book it blew it away because it had all this history and mystery of this world that it will leave you piecing the puzzle together. Anna Banks did an amazing job creating this book!! I loved everything about it, it had lots of drama (which I like) Romance (double check) and everything above =AWESOME!! From beginning to end it was addicting and amazing!!

I really loved Emma, Galen, Rayna and even Toraf because they made the story what it is. It really came together!! I loved the way Anna Banks has the different point of views because it gave us insight to both Emma and Galen. These two were really fun characters because they are perfect for each other because they do get along but at the same time the tension/romantic feelings which they both recognize. Emma's character was strong and funny. I did like her as a character because she is luck enough to hang out with Galen (who is HOT) What I loved also was the background history of Triton and Poseidon because it does have a major impact of the story and the reasons why Syrena is the way it is politically.

All the scenes under water were also interesting because all the history with Galen's brother is also interesting behind that story. Each scene grabs the readers attention. Love all the information, and detail in the writing. The point of views I really enjoyed as well and getting to know the characters. The ending was OMG because it was one of those cliffhangers that will leave you wanting more!!

When reading the book I was addicted to the story and how the way Anna Banks creates her characters! I am looking forward to the next book when it does come out! Don't miss this amazing book because its amazing! Love mermaids, this is the perfect one for you!  It was one of my favorite books of the year!! Book 2 come out quicker!!!

  7. I found that this book had a lot of great things going for it. It had a mix of fabulous characters, all jumping off the page with their own quirky and unique personalities. The folklore and history surrounding the Syrena was rich and incredibly interesting. Sometimes in supernatural books, the author's explanations for "why" and "how come" and "how it came to be" falls on the unbelievable side. However, this is not the case with Of Poseidon. I found the details and back story of the Syrena, where they've been and how they continue to be, extremely solid and believable, within the world Ms. Banks has created. Everything just "belonged". With 5 out of 5 stars I CANNOT wait for the next installment.
